The theatrical backdrop is a decorated scenic element, generally placed on both sides of the stage. It has the conceptual, constructive and performative gift of describing an environment, of leaving space between any other element and/or subject present. It can accommodate beams of light and therefore grant spatial “cuts” capable of shaping the overall vision of the physical context and emotional references.
Parallel and linear or inclined in a herringbone pattern. In the latter case, they fuel a “perspective flight” towards the centre, soberly and functionally focusing attention on one point, without ever limiting it to the other protagonists of the context.
The observation of this dynamic perspective has activated a mechanism for conceiving the sofa which, at GARAVINI, we believe is correct to define as the “(f)actorial capacity of the sofa”.
With this creative applied formula, we wish to explain our study of all the possible combinations that influence a specific model, with the aim of drawing information for a possible aesthetic and functional upgrade of the same.
We therefore practice an investigation of intrinsic design attitudes and capabilities, through conceptual, artisanal, behavioural, aesthetic, social, digital and generative elaborations.
This multifactorial nature opens us up to a real “staging” of the sofa as a place and no longer as an object, a point of view that allows us to develop seating solutions that have the capacity, created in our company laboratory, to be part of a whole in ways that are no longer trivially simplified and reduced to their most common form of “structure with cushions to sit on” but rather of free space and a comfort platform with which to live and thanks to which to get to know each other.
Each of our projects can in fact be experienced with parallel, linear or inclined positioning and has the talent and the elegant irony of being both a centre of attention and separation of spaces, and a point of conjunction between human beings and optimistic, meditative, social and sharing residential functions.
